Nepal is divided into five chapters: the Kathmandu Valley (with Chitwan National Park), the Jomsom Trek (Annapurna), Langtang Trek (Gosainkund and Helambu), the Everest Trek from Jiri and the Everest Trek with Gokyo. The Tibet chapter takes you overland from Kathmandu to Lhasa (the Potala, Sera, Drepung, the Jokhang) visiting Zhangmu, Tingri, Sakya, Shigatse (Tashilunpo) and Gyantse on the way. In Pakistan you start in Rawalpindi following the Karakoram Highway along the banks of the Indus up to Gilgit and Karimabad. With trips into Skardu, Baltistan, Chitral, the Kalash Valley, Peshawar with the Khyber Pass and Lahore. The Darjeeling & Sikkim chapter takes you from Darjeeling in West Bengal into Sikkim via the Pemayangste Monastery and Gangtok, with a visit to the Rumtek Monastery and Kalimpong. The Ladakh chapter follows the journey north of Delhi via Hardwar and Rishikesh on the banks of the holy River Ganges. From Manali you travel further north via some of the highest motorable passes in the world to Leh. With visits to Tikse, Shey, Hemis, Alchi, Phyang and Lamayuru Monasteries. Bhutan consists of two chapters. The first one takes you to Thimphu (Tashichoedzong, archery festival, market) Paro, Bhumthang and Jakar Valleys. The second chapter is a special feature of Canadian photographer Timothy Hellum which takes you to the Thimphu Tsechu (one of the most impressive Himalayan temple festivals) as well as offering a closer look on rural life. |
